The best tricks for tackling hard-to-clean household items

There are undoubtedly plenty of items in your home that you just wish you could clean a little bit easier. Well, have no fear; there are ways to quickly deal with any home cleaning chore, even when it looks like an impossible feat. Read below for some neat tips and tricks:

• Sticky candles – candles become grimy and dusty over time, especially if you are using some of them as decoration. What you can do to clean them properly is to use a stocking. Put a candle in there and roll it around. The nylon material will quickly clean the wax surface, surpassing its sticky properties.

• The inside part of your purse – there is a lot of dust that can accumulate there, especially if you are using only one purse. To deal with that, you can use a lint roller. It will not only pick up dust and other debris but also find you that lost pin you have been looking for.

• The TV screen – the static on the TV and computer screen attracts plenty of dust over time. It is a delicate surface, which you shouldn’t clean with just about anything. A coffee filter is soft and very effective for this job.

• Window blinds – vinegar and water make for a fantastic cleaning solution in this case. As for a tool, you don’t need some fancy brushes to get into the crevices and clean them. All you need is an old sock. Just don it on your hand and slide across the blind. That way you are cleaning two sides at the same time, essentially halving the chore.

• Pet hair – the thing about pet hair is that it sticks to fabric surfaces, such as clothes, upholstery and carpet. To pick most of it up with ease, you should use a slightly wet rubber glove. If that doesn’t work, try running a squeegee across the surface with lots of hairs.

• Pop-up toaster – getting to the coils of the toaster is no easy task unless you disassemble it. However, a toothbrush could fit in there easily and do the job for you. Scrub down with water only and let it dry before you use it again. It would be wise to place a paper towel under the crumb tray so that debris doesn’t get out of control.

• Ceiling fan blades – the way to clean these without running the risk of creating a dust shower is simple. Get an old pillowcase and slide it over a single blade. Press down gently and slide the pillowcase back off. All of the dust ends up inside and not on the floor.

• Mattress – if your mattress has developed unpleasant odours, you can mix a few drops of essential oil with baking soda. Sprinkle it on the mattress and let it sit for a while. Vacuum it thoroughly and enjoy a refreshed scent afterwards.
