Window cleaners have been advised not to clean glass surfaces in the sun.

According to expert advice in the March issue of Consumer Reports, when windows are cleaned in the sun, the direct sunlight can cause the cleaning solution to evaporate before it is even wiped off.

This can result in unsightly streaks and will simply add to the window cleaning workload.

Instead, commercial cleaning professionals are advised to clean from the top of the window downwards on a cloudy day or when the windows are in a shaded area.

In order to achieve a perfect spotlessly clean window, contract cleaners are also urged to apply cleaning solutions to window surfaces with a slightly dampened sponge.

Then, they should wipe across the window with a dampened squeegee blade and subsequently wipe the blade.

Using industry-approved cleaning solutions is also advised to ensure that windows are cleaned thoroughly and health and safety is not compromised.
