Domestic CleaningYou might not consider it as a big deal, but consistent research shows that something as trivial as home cleaning can, in fact, contribute to quite a lot of quarrel at home. Whether it is an individual member’s lack of cleaning habits or the demands of the place that are not being met, you need to stay on top of your chores.

The best way to do this is to think of housework (especially cleaning) as a team effort. Devise a plan with your family and stick to it. Cleaning is one of the chores that everyone should participate. That is the only way to avoid misunderstanding and pushing someone’s buttons. In the end, cleaning is important for ensuring a sanitary and healthy environment at home. Consider the following steps to organise the work and keep everyone happy:

  • Involve people in housework – one of the primary ways for someone to feel under pressure is to have the whole work fall on them. It is never a good idea to have your significant other take on cleaning all by themselves. It is a lot of hard work for one person to deal with. You should be helping them out any way you can. If you have children, include them in the house cleaning fun! Naturally, you cannot expect much to be done by them, but you can at the very least teach them the importance of cleaning. By distributing the chores, the bother of home cleaning will not stress a single person only.
  • Clean up a mess promptly – this is one rule that you should establish with everyone in the house. Should a cleaning issue occur, it should be tackled on the spot. That way the problem can be contained before it’s had a chance to affect others. There are many examples of this. Say you are brushing your teeth and you spill some toothpaste on the sink. Don’t just leave the blob there for the next person to find. By that time, it would have dried and become a bother to deal with. If you wipe the spot right away, this won’t happen. Similarly, don’t just pass clutter like it’s someone else’s job to pick it up. Take items where they belong and make sure you aren’t the reason for the mess.
  • Different people can work on a single aspect of a cleaning task – many household tasks can be broken down into small bits. You can deal with one aspect, while someone else handles something else. Thus a good spirit of cooperation is created. For instance, vacuuming the common areas is not that difficult, and pretty much everyone can do it. On the other hand, cleaning under furniture is not a woman’s job, as lifting and moving heavy objects can be challenging. Leave that to the man of the house, and you have 100% progress completed on the vacuuming chore.

These strategies on how to organise home cleaning duty with your family go a long way in ensuring the peace at home. More importantly, they contribute to having a cleaner environment for everyone to enjoy.
