Cleaning CompaniesThe kitchen sink is probably one of the dirtiest items at home. You may think that just because water and dishwashing detergent are often at work there, it is clean and spotless. Without a thorough clean, the sink accumulates bacteria and germs, which is not ideal.

When dealing with kitchen cleaning, always remember to focus on the sink. This is the workstation of the room, and as such needs more care and attention. Kitchen sinks are made of different materials, which call for a different cleaning approach. How you clean yours depends on what it is made of. The general cleaning process you should follow is this:

  • Wipe it up – the most routine cleaning job you should invest in is wiping up the area. You can use a damp cloth with some washing-up solution. Alternatively, you can do with an anti-bacterial spray cleaner for better sanitation. You can also use a multi-purpose cream/liquid cleaner. Once you have applied it, rinse thoroughly and dry the area.
  • Deal with limescale – if you live in an area with particularly hard water, you need to stay on top of limescale. It is one of the things that can ruin the reflection of your gleaming sink. To deal with the problem, you need to use a specialised limescale cleaner. Vinegar and lemon juice are two eco-friendly alternatives. The main thing about this job is to let the solution sit on the affected area. Don’t just scrub away at it. This is a sure way to damage the surface of the sink. Instead, you should leave the solution of choice to soak. It will soften the limescale and make it easy to remove.
  • Don’t let coloured drinks dry on the sink surface – whether it is tea, coffee fruit juice or some other coloured drink, you should wipe it off immediately. Otherwise, they could leave a visible stain on the sink. If you have missed out on a stain, you can treat it with a washing detergent or diluted household bleach.
  • Overflows and plugholes require cleaning too – just because these aren’t seen doesn’t mean they are clean. To clean them, you can use a toothbrush to get in that narrow space.
  • Prevent grease build-up – if you do a lot of dishwashing in the sink, the waste pipes may accumulate grease. You need to remove it because it might cause other debris to stick and block the drains. Use washing soda solution once every two weeks to prevent this from happening.
  • Get rid of rust – undoubtedly, one of the best solutions to use on the sink when it comes to removing rust is WD-40. Work the rusted area with a cloth and follow that with a thorough rinse. If the sink is porcelain enamel, you can use half a lemon with salt to treat rust.

These tips guarantee that your sink is going to be in top shape at all times. Invest the effort in this home cleaning chore to keep a sanitary environment in the kitchen.
