If you’ve equipped your car with alloy wheels, you have to make sure that they are cleaned and maintained properly. You may not be able to enlist mobile car valeting services all of the time, or even drive to the car wash, but one thing is certain: you have to clean the wheels on a regular basis. This will guarantee that they remain in top shape and are safe from corrosion. Furthermore, it’ll increase their life a great deal and save you money in the long run. Here’s the procedure you should follow to ensure the wheels are getting the best care:

Rinse fully – the first part of the cleaning procedure is rinsing the wheels with a hose or a jet washer. You can use a hose with a light steam of water also, because this guarantees that enough moisture gets at the back of the wheels. That’s where plenty of dirt and grime tends to accumulate anyway.

Clean with a sponge – after that, take a soft sponge, dampen it and then softly rub the surface of the wheels. The major goal behind this is to remove as much grime as possible. It also reduces the risk of damaging the surface of the wheels at a later stage during the cleaning process.

Clear grime with a specialised cleaner – it is best to approach this job with a specially designed solution. Don’t resort to acid-based cleaners, as they can eat away at the lacquer of the wheels. Combine cleaner with water in a bucket based on manufacturer’s instructions. Dip a sponge and rub the wheels with it. Since you’ve already cleaned a great portion of the dirt during the second step, you shouldn’t be afraid to scrub harder, as required. Get an old toothbrush to clean the crevices of the wheels.

Rinse off completely again – when you are finished cleaning, it’s wise to should apply on the wheels with a hose again. The idea is to remove the cleaning product completely. Concentrate on each wheel individually. Bear in mind that going through steps 3 and four one wheel at a time can stop the cleaning solution from drying out.

Dry the wheels – use a chamois or a microfibre cloth to dry the wheels. It’s advisable to deal with this in order to avoid marks. It is also a good idea to deal with the task in the shade, as strong sun causes any water and cleaning solution to dry out too quickly.

Target remaining stains – at times hard to remove stains can make it through the wash and scrub. You can resort to cleaning rust with aluminum foil and cola – simply sand the wheels with the foil after soaking it in cola. Vinegar does great in case of grease on alloy wheels. Lemon juice can be utilised to make the wheels shine. As a finishing touch, you can add wax to give the wheels a complete look.

Obviously, this wheel cleaning procedure does not take much time and effort. Dedicate yourself to it to ensure your alloy wheels are in excellent shape.
